National Carriers, Inc. has named Joey Bourque as October and Visente Torres as November Driver of the Month for 2023. Both received a one- thousand- dollar bonus and are now eligible to be named 2023 Driver of the Year. The Driver of the Year will be announced, and the winner will receive an additional $10,000 bonus on April 12, 2024, at the annual Driver of the Year banquet held in Arlington, TX.
Bourque is a company driver who joined National Carriers in August of 2021. Living in Lincoln, Kansas, he transports cattle hides from National Beef plants in southwest Kansas to their tannery in St. Joseph, Mo. Pulling trailers loaded with more than 500 cattle hides, Bourque averages four loads per week, delivering more than 100,000 hides annually for processing.
“Once a trailer comes out of one of the plants, I have 24 hours to deliver it to the tannery. Before I start, I plan out my trip so I know where I will take my 30-minute break and where I will shut down for the day. Family time is important to me, so I try to take my 10-hour break at my home to see my wife and children. I run legal and safe. I ran over 155,000 miles last year,” Bourque shared.
Torres began his career with National Carriers in Liberal, KS cleaning out livestock trailers and preparing them for the next day’s loads. Next, he spent three years positioning trailers in the National Beef yard. Finally, he joined National Carriers livestock division as an owner operator in March of 2013. His grit and determination have led him to his overall success within the livestock department.
Torres explained, “I am an owner operator at National Carriers. I have been driving for ten years going on eleven in a couple months. All I can say about this recognition is if you want something in life, work for it and God will provide the rest.”
