Nestled in a small town in southern Georgia is a National Beef case ready plant.  That plant processes boxed beef delivered from the west.  It cuts, packages and ships to one of America’s largest retailers.  That packaged beef is then put on the shelf for the customer to buy.

National Carriers has seven full time drivers that run out of that plant seven days a week, 365 days a year.  Sounds like an easy job, but it’s really a challenge. Loads begin coming out at eight o’clock every night. Drivers have a limited amount of time to pick-up and make their appointments.  Sometimes loads come out late, and yet the drivers do a great job of getting those loads to their destinations.  There are relatively few times when the driver fails to make on time delivery.  We commend these drivers for going above and beyond every night to make sure America gets the quality beef it demands.

These deliveries could not be accomplished without proper trip planning. Today, with the advent and use of EOBR, planning and execution is critical.  It is important when you receive a preplan or load, you look at your available hours and plan your trip to use your hours to the max.  Sometimes it requires you to keep that left door closed and run.  Other times, you might have to pace yourself so you don’t get there too early.  Either way, you have to plan your trip  to deliver or pickup on time.  Now, we can’t always rely on the shipper or receiver to be on the same page, but if you do your part, no one will ever say that you didn’t do your job.
