After driving and working a long day, sometimes we tend to let things slide and not do the things we should before shutting down for the night ( or day) as might be the case. Usually, when we get up after our break, we walk around and check our truck and trailer before heading out. But, what about the times when we drop a trailer at a customer or a company yard.  Do you walk around that trailer and check the tires, lights, or look for any other obvious mechanical or damage problems.

The tire and wheel below were on a trailer dropped at a customer.  A walk around would have revealed the issue with the wheel and a simple phone call could most likely corrected the problem.

Too often, we get into a hurry or we just don’t bother to check things out.  The theory is that if I don’t check it out, the next guy will take care of it.  Suppose YOU are the next guy?  Now, you have to make the call and then burn your time getting something fixed that shouldn’t have been that way to begin with.  In this particular case, suppose you didn’t catch this and headed down the road and the wheel bearings froze up from lack of oil…now you really have a problem.

Do the proper thing and do the right thing…check out your truck and trailer before and after your days work.  Consider the next driver and check out the trailer you are dropping at a customer or yard.  REMEMBER, you could be on the receiving end of somebody’s  lack of doing the right thing.
