Jill Maschmeier: NCI Director of Safety and Compliance

The major focus at National Carriers (and mine personally) is safety. Our Mission Statement reads, “ To be the safest, most customer focused and successful motor carrier in our class.” We now have on board recorders, which is very dynamic, insuring our drivers are safe as well as the motoring public. Another major area of improvement is on board recorders on our trailers as well as our tractors. This allows us to monitor the location of our equipment and the integrity of our customer’s cargo.

We also focus on CSA 2010. The past few years there has been a major push in our industry to make sure our drivers are safe. NCI has been very successful in making sure driver logs are correct and we reward our drivers with $50 cash for each “no violation” inspection they complete.  Another point of emphasis is our ratio of accidents per million miles. If you compare our rates with others, we have one of the lowest ratings in our segment.

At National Carriers, we have an open door policy. A representative of the safety department is available 24 hours a day,7 days per week, if a driver has an issue. If a family member needs to reach a driver due to an emergency and cannot contact their loved one, we are here to assist. We have a whole team of safety professionals here to care for your professional needs. These include an in-house worker’s compensation representative, a cargo/claims representative and an auto liability representative. We try very hard to handle claims in house, allowing that personal touch. You are not a number at NCI, you are a name and a heartbeat. We are only as successful as you are and we realize that.
