Saving Fuel – It’s the Right Thing to Do

“I’m not out here for the money, I’m out here because I enjoy what I do,” stated May 2015 National Carriers Driver of the Month, Gary Horvath. After years of working in a factory, Gary knew what he was looking for when he began driving. In November of 2013 Horvath began driving at National Carriers. In 2014 he brought positive attention to himself for obtaining the best fuel economy in a ten speed Kenworth T-700 and getting a quarterly fuel bonus check.

“Al Love and I visited about approaching Gary to star in a short You Tube video explaining his driving habits. We felt others could benefit from his knowledge and skill set,” explained NCI Director of Social Media, Ed Kentner. “He was reluctant at first, but he was willing to share so other drivers might be able to receive a quarterly fuel bonus as he was. Within the first couple days the seven minute video had over 300 views from our drivers.”

Fast forward to 2015, Gary now drives an automatic Kenworth T-680 and his fuel economy remains a leader in the fleet. Compared to the average company driver at NCI, Gary’s truck will require over $10,000 less in fuel during 2015. While saving money for the company and creating more income for himself via the fuel NCI fuel bonus program, those are not the reasons he conserves fuel with his driving habits.

” It’s just the right thing to do,” he said modestly.
