THE FAULT IN OUR STARS
Fast Ed:
“Christ is our friend and he will be there till the end” may not be the most uplifting words to sing to a terminally ill teenage cancer patient, but that is what Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) finds at the support group her parents encourages her to join. It is there she meets the love of her life, Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), and so it begins.
Author Peter Van Houten (Willem Dafoe) has fascinated the couple with his novel, Imperial Affliction. Hazel and Gus embark on an adventure of their young lifetime. Dafoe’s performance will undoubtedly earn him a nod in the best supporting actor category. The pace of the movie is slow and deliberate which is well suited for the subject matter. This movie is chalked full of quotable lines.
My Favorite: Funerals I had decided, are for the living.

I Love this movie! It’s real with real people, real love, real hurts and real kindness. It’s not just one of those love stories. The characters are so intelligent and witty.
My favorite quote: “The real heroes anyway aren’t the people doing things; the real heroes are the people noticing things, paying attention. The guy who invented the smallpox vaccine didn’t actually invent anything. He just noticed that people with cowpox didn’t get smallpox.”
As the film introduces Gus puts the unlit cigarette in his mouth prompting Miss Hazel Grace to ask, why?
“It’s a metaphor, see: you put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do its killing.”
Young and old alike will love this story.
